As our Communications and Sustainability Specialist, you will expand and deliver our communications strategy. You will contribute to showcasing the impact of our work with our partners by creating insightful content. Success in this role includes:
Supporting our company needs by landing the communications strategy. Connecting sustainability-focused organisations with our work and our team. Sharing our work with the emerging sustainability private sector. We are currently focusing on supply chains. Collaborating with and inspiring people to make the world greener, fairer and more sustainable. Developing our voice and brand to reach a more diverse audience, of NGOs as well as corporations.
This is a mid-senior role. We are offering a salary range of 30000 - 42000 Euros (depending on your experience), and we are open to exploring full time and part-time contracts options (with a minimum of 50% time dedication) depending on the candidate’s needs.
We have operations in Spain, Portugal and the UK, and at this moment, people are working remotely or at our office in Madrid. You are very welcome to join us if you are eligible to work in any of these three countries.

Role Mission. Why does it exist?
Vizzuality is expanding its offering within the sustainability sector, from NGOs to companies and corporations. Specifically, we are developing a product that supports the sustainable management of international supply chains. We are looking for an experienced and versatile Communications and Sustainability Specialist to support this expansion. The primary purpose of the role is to guide our strategic communications approach and support creating content. As our communications evolve alongside our business strategy, you will need to be adaptable and creative to embrace this transition with a leading voice.

To build a coherent communication and marketing strategy with focused B2B marketing elements. The aim is to support the missions of our NGO clients and to reach some of the world’s largest corporations, to help them create a net-zero future with positive environmental and social impact.
To co-create valuable content that promotes our projects and those of our clients, that discusses them through real-life examples, and to share what we’re learning.
To grow Vizzuality’s brand and voice in a way that speaks to our core NGO client base shows relevance to the corporate sustainability market, and recognises the urgency of the issues we work on.

A day in the life of a Communications Manager at Vizzuality
A typical day will involve leading our internal and external communications activities. You will be the primary link between the Communications team and the project teams, responsible for maintaining a coherent strategy and brand. At our communicative core, we want to continue conveying Vizzuality’s principles while finding our approach that caters to an audience of diverse stakeholders.
Some examples of specific tasks include:
Defining our communication short and long term goals, creating, and executing plans to achieve these. Managing our regular communication activities: project launches, events, social media, blogs, and web content. Working with the team to solicit or write valuable and insightful blogs, website copy, and social media content. Working with our Communications and Business Development team to market Vizzuality’s services to the corporate sustainability audience, as well as building upon our existing NGO audience.
These are some of the things you will have achieved in your first year at Vizzuality.
In your first month:
You’ll pair with your team members to learn what our processes and tools are. You’ll meet with Project Managers and representatives from across the team to understand what they do and how we all work together. You’ll familiarise yourself with the current strategy work done so far for the comms functional area.
During the following months:
You’ll help your communication team colleagues update content plans for Vizzuality. You’ll have the chance to update and shape Vizzuality’s communication guidelines with the rest of the team. You’ll work with Business Development to understand our long term business objectives and develop strategies to grow our outreach. You’ll co-create content for internal and external audiences.
By the end of the first year:
You’ll be ensuring brand coherence in communication pieces and helping your colleagues do the same. You’ll help BD establish and maintain the necessary relationships with our existing and potential clients. You’ll be ready to manage Vizzuality’s online community.
Skills and experiences we are looking for in a candidate
Must have skills and experience:
At least 5 years of experience working for an in-house or agency team in communications, marketing, or a public relations role. B2B marketing and communications: Knowledge of corporate B2B marketing and how to deliver this effectively. Strategy and planning: Developing plans that detail the tactics and content used to communicate news, developments, and propositions to each of the relevant audiences. Content creation: Creating online content that is useful and engaging for users. You will engage with our community through events, social media posts, and other initiatives or channels. Excellent writing skills and experience writing for the web. People: Excellent people skills with the ability to coordinate and work with cross-functional teams. Native or fluent English with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Spanish is a plus.

Research: Willingness to stay informed of developments and trends inside and outside the organisation that impact company objectives, and in response make recommendations on how to improve our communication activities. This could be in Sustainability, Science, and/or Marketing. Multi-format content creation: Such as skills in video creation, podcasts, microsites, newsletters, creative engagement techniques. Community management and relationship building: Experience engaging with an online and offline community and clients. Confidence in networking and speaking with groups of people.

A competitive salary. We are offering between 30000 and 42000 Euros. This range is only an indication and we will agree on your final salary together based on your specific experience and profile A yearly bonus of up to 10% of the salary, depending on the company’s performance and your own. First Screener: 20th October to 29th October
This is a 60-minute informal interview so you can get to know a bit better the company, our culture and ask any questions about the role and our ways of working. From our side, we are interested in understanding more about what you are looking for, your current skill level and experience, and what you care about.
Challenge: 3rd November to 10th November
We will invite you to complete an assignment to get a better understanding of your writing skills, the way you organise your ideas, and also how you would go about sharing what we do with the world. We will send you via email an assignment for you to prepare, and then we will ask you to send us your ideas back in 1 week.
Interview: 17th November to 24th November
This will be an opportunity for you to share in more detail your assignment and explain to us the reasons behind your proposal and the decisions you made. During this interview, there will be time to deep-dive into your background, experience and skills, and also an opportunity for you to ask us questions about the role and the company.
Informal Catch Up with the Team: Week commencing on 29th November
During the last stage of the process, the idea is to offer you a final opportunity to get to know more people on the team (not just Comms or HR people) so you can make a more informed decision. You will be meeting online people from different areas/levels/countries, so you can get an idea of what different people in the company do, how we organise ourselves, our typical day to day, or any other info you may want to get first hand.
